The ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry is organizing the second installment of the successful workshop series entitled, “SILICON-CONTAINING POLYMERS AND COMPOSITES.”

Silicon, the second most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, is ubiquitously found in various aspects of polymer chemistry and engineering. The chemistry of silanes, siloxanes, silsesquioxanes, and silicates has had a tremendous impact on the creation of novel substances that exhibit far-reaching influence on modern material applications across multiple industries. Despite the extensive progression in the development of silicon-containing materials, the versatility of this useful element provides continued promise. This workshop will cover recent technological advancements in silicon-containing polymers and composites, and will include everything from fundamental research to commercial product development. The workshop will be of interest to both academic and industrial communities and is the second installment of the successful biennial workshop series started in 2010. Selected workshop presenters will be invited to submit papers to a special issue of the journal, Silicon.

SPEAKERS AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS

A book of abstracts for presentations and posters will be distributed at the meeting.  Presenters are asked to submit a one page graphical abstract electronically to lesiar@vt.edu (consider sending a hard copy if your submission includes charts and graphs).  A 12-point Times font and single spacing are preferred.  Remit documentation to Lesia Linkous, 410 Davidson Hall, MC 0279, Division of Polymer Chemistry, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061, lesiar@vt.edu.  Also include a short bio for speaker introductions.  

Abstract deadline is Monday, November 2, 2012. 

Interested speakers should submit their request directly to organizers including title and brief abstract.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The workshop will be held at the Omni Hotel, 675 L Street, San Diego California USA. Located on the West Coast of the United States, San Diego provides easy access to international participants and will be a relatively warm location during the chilly month of December. Hotel reservations should be made directly with the Omni by phone (1-800-THE-OMNI), referring to "ACS Polymer Division" or "ACS Polymer Silicon" conference rate of $159.00 per night (single), $179 per night (double), plus surcharge and applicable taxes per night. Online lodging reservations will be available in the future.
